See our tour options below:

Sea Kayaking

Kayaking is the most intimate way of experiencing the natural wonders of Kachemak bay. Soaring bald eagles, playful sea otter pups, seals, sea lions as well as thousands of nesting sea birds inhabit the protected waters across the bay. The almost silent travel of a sea kayak will take you to an undisturbed marine ecosystem with minimum impact on the environment. All trips originate from the Homer boat harbor and include round trip water taxi and all equipment.

You will observe first hand the fascinating natural wonders of Kachemak bay and you will also have a chance to explore the vast tide pools along the beach. All trips are run by knowledgeable experienced guides in safe stable sea kayaks. Departure time is 9:30 am and return is 5:00 pm. Half day trips are also available.

Overnight Sea Kayaking

Experience two different environments on the bay: The first day paddle around the islands exploring coves, sea otters and eagles nests. The camp will be set up at water’s edge with beach walking easily accessible.

Spend the next day in Tutka Bay or Sadie Cove, famous for steep snowcapped mountains that descend dramatically to the water. Delicious meals will be prepared by your guide. Leave Homer at 10am and returns the next day at approximately 6pm.

Trip includes All kayak equipment and instruction, guide, water taxi to True North’s base camp on Yukon Island and delicious meals prepared by your guide. Tents and sleeping bag s are provided if you are not bringing your own.

Wilderness Hiking In Kachemak Bay State Park

Take an early morning cruise aboard the vessel Seabird to the trails across Kachemak Bay. Day hiking or overnight camping is a great way to explore the park. Morning drop offs at Glacier Spit lead you to a leisurely 3.5 mile hike to the lake at the foot of one of the many glaciers in the Harding Ice Field. The water taxi returns to pick you up on the other end of the trail. This is a great hike and can be made by just about anyone of walking age. Other park trails range from an easy hour long trek through a temperate rain forest to a vigorous alpine climb above timberline.

The price for a round trip water taxi to Kachemak Bay state park is $75.00 per person plus a $4.00 park fee.

Marine Wildlife Tour

The 2 hour marine wildlife cruise shows off the highlights of Kachemak Bay.

  • The tour includes Gull Island – our major bird rookery- home to 20,000 nesting seabirds, 8 species including Horned & Tufted puffins, Cormorants – { both Pelagic and Red Faced}, Murres, Murrelets, Glaucous – winged gulls & Kittiwakes.
  • Other highlights include our wealth of Sea Otters. Kachemak Bay is one of the most prolific bays in the world as far as numbers of creatures that live here in addition to the seasonal ones that come here to feed for the summer.
  • Nesting Bald Eagles are seen along the shoreline.
  • Often we are able to watch whales in our bay – sometimes Humpback whales, Minke whales and occasionally a pilot whale makes an appearance.
  • Porpoise and seals are also often spotted while touring.
  • The guide takes small groups – speaking directly to you – { not over a microphone} – The boat is able to cut the engines and drift by the animals you are watching – so as not to disturb them.
  • The 3 hour birding tour is sometimes an option – similar to the 2 hour tour cruise – but has an additional hour of coastline for more species of birds. Rate will be adjusted when requesting the 3 hour tour.
